It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our longtime Chairman of the Board, Gregory O. “Butch” Dias, Jr.
Butch passed away unexpectedly, shortly before the Christmas holiday. Please be in prayer for his wife Alice, their sons, Darren and Greg and their families, and friends as we all grieve.
At the California Dairy Research Foundation, Butch was a well-respected and passionate leader, mentor, and a true friend. Having lead as Chairman of the Board for more than 9 years, his impact on the direction and success of CDRF is undeniable.
“He put great importance in science, and believed that California’s dairy future depended on innovation and creative thinking. He always said that the farmers were the original environmentalists,” said CDRF Executive Director, Dr. Gonca Pasin.
Butch, a third-generation California dairy farmer, owned and operated Delta View Farms & Rachelle’s Jerseys – alongside his sons, Darren and Greg.
In addition to running a dairy full-time, Butch served on several boards and committees throughout his career, always looking forward to making a positive difference for the future of the dairy industry in California. Most recently, he served on the Farm Credit West Enterprise Risk Management Committee and was a National Association of Corporate Directors Governance Fellow. Butch was also a Director of the California Jersey Cattle Association (which promotes Jersey breed improvement) and Chairman of the Board at the California Dairy Research Foundation.
