Industry Outreach

Cheese making classCDRF provides funding to the Dairy Products Technology Center (DPTC) at California Polytechnic State University for their outreach program.  This program provide educational programs that insure industry personnel are receiving the necessary continuing education to insure an effective, motivated and productive workforce. Participants across our nation’s dairy processing facilities include:

  • Managers
  • Supervisors
  • Marketing specialists
  • Maintenance
  • Sales representatives
  • Operational specialists

In addition to the normal course offerings, DPTC also conducts short workshops for artisan/farmstead cheesemakers. The workshops update cheese makers on the latest best practices to insure the quality and safety of their cheese.   Instructors include Phil Tong, Cal Poly DPTC;  Dennis D’Amico, Vermont Artisan Cheese Institute; and Les Wood, California Department of Food and Agriculture.   Workshops have been held in Petaluma/Santa Rosa and Fresno/Visalia areas.  These workshops are offered with financial support provided by California Dairy Research Foundation and assistance of Dairy Research Institute.

Specialized technical programs (like the annual Dairy Ingredients Symposium) provide a blend of new technology and marketing information to insure our industry remains at the forefront of innovation in dairy ingredients processing.  The attendees gain valuable information that they can immediately apply to better do their specific job assignments.  The producers benefit by knowing that a better educated workforce leads to improved quality and value during handling and processing their milk.   For more information on DPTC’s programs please visit their website:
